Television Recycling in Kansas City

Not sure where to take those old TVs sitting around the house? PC Disposal (PCD) now offers EPA compliant TV recycling in the Greater Kansas City area, including Olathe, Gardner, Overland Park, Lenexa, Lee's Summit, Independence, Blue Springs and surrounding areas.

Why recycle my television?

In 2007, Americans had accumulated 99 million TVs in storage and discarded nearly 27 million TVs, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Of the TVs discarded, only 18 percent were recycled. Between 2004 and 2007, the number of TVs that entered the waste stream increased by 14 percent.

Old televisions contain approximately 4 to 8 pounds of lead, a neurotoxin. Improper disposal means this toxic substance can leach into the ground. However, those same TVs contain copper, steel and aluminum that can be recovered through recycling. Recycling TVs helps to conserve natural resources and energy, and reduce pollution resulting from the extraction and processing of raw materials from the earth.

What does PCD do with my television?

In our industry, PC Disposal's TV recycling center is classified as a “collector-separator.” The television is broken down and separated into its basic material categories. From there, each material is shipped to its corresponding recycling plant: metal recycling center, glass recycler, plastic bailer, etc.

Our recycling methods are fully compliant with Environmental Protection Agency rules and recycling laws in Missouri and Kansas.

How much does it cost?

Measure Screen Diagonally

PCD charges $4 per diagonal inch for flat screen TVs and $6 per diagonal inch for old tube TVs (CRT). If you don't already know the size of your television, measure the screen from the upper left corner to the lower right corner and multiply times two. For example: at 30 inch flat screen TV would be 30 X $4 = $120.

NOTE: PCD does not accept the old wooden console televisions. Sorry.

Do you recycle other electronics?

Yes! We recycle nearly all consumer and business electronics, including computers, printers, smartphones, cameras and even stereo equipment. View list of what we recycle at our consumer electronics recycling store.

Who is PCD?

PC Disposal is part of a family of technology businesses started in 1989. Kory Bostwick founded PC Disposal in 1998 because he was concerned that there were few environmentally-friendly options for companies who wanted to dispose of the toxic glut of obsolete computers that were filling offices – and ultimately – landfills.

With this idea in mind, PC Disposal has grown into one of the largest computer disposal firms in the industry. We've now expanded to provide recycling services for all types of electronic waste. In addition to home consumers, our clients include companies of all sizes throughout the United States and Canada, and many of our clients are Fortune 500 companies and U.S. government agencies.
