Monitor Recycling

Junkyards the world over is filled with a variety of refuse from all walks of life. In those countries that have the necessary legislation much of this refuse is sorted and recycled so that it can be used again for other purposes. But even those countries where recycling is a large part of every day life there exists a problem that is starting to grow. Old computer parts like monitors are filling up junkyards and there seems to be no end in sight. Initiatives like monitor recycling and old computer disposal are starting to become more common as the problem becomes more widespread throughout the world.

The computer age has brought with it the amazing technological wonders associated with the personal computer. Sadly it has also brought with it another problem. The problem of what do with the old equipment and technology. The rate at which computer technology advances means that people are buying new personal computers almost every second month, but what happens to the old parts? In some cases they are sold but in many cases they are simply thrown away. Left to decompose in the junkyards, these parts can have detrimental effects on the environment as well as filling up already overflowing junkyards and landfills. One solution that has been put forward is monitor recycling.

The one part of the personal computer that has changes infrequently is the monitor. With monitor recycling there is a move to re use old monitors as much as possible. A school that decides to buy a whole host of new computers can save a lot of money by purchasing second-hand monitors and recycling what someone else does not need. The technology that is associated with monitors allows them to be used in many different ways and with a little tweaking an old monitor can become television screen. Monitor recycling can play an important part in cleaning up the landfills and junkyards and making the environment just a little bit safer.

Initiatives to curb the growing problem of computer waste do not stop at monitor recycling, however. But the largest problem facing many countries and companies in recycling computer parts is the price. Recycling standard plastic, paper, and glass is easy and effortless. Since most parts of computers are made up of a combination of these elements, however, recycling them according the traditional sense is more work intensive and therefore more expensive. People are looking at ways that other parts of computers can be re used the same way that monitors are to help curb the growing piles of technological waste.

Monitor recycling is but one of many ways to help curb the growing piles of technological flotsam being generated by modern society. It is up to all of us to find ways to recycle the parts of computers that we might no longer need. If we cannot recycle them then it is our duty to find safe ways to dispose of old computers to keep the environment clear of possible poisons.
